For 5 weeks, I went alone to Sal, Cape Verde. There I volunteered at Chã de Matias. An organization that makes sure children don’t stay on the streets. With the children, who go to Chã de Matias, I spent my time 3-4 days a week. Dancing together, playing games, lots of drawing, and even once my hair and makeup was done. When I wasn’t busy with the kids I could be found on the beach drawing or getting my umpteenth ice cream. Also did an island tour (really a must go to for the best photos).
I had a great time. For the first time all by myself on the road, it was a little exciting and getting used to, but soon I was able to make my friends (partly thanks to work). What was very nice is that I can understand the language so I quickly felt at home. Plus I can now speak criolo much better than before. In short, had a lot of fun, learned new things and met new people.
